Shamanization Recording of the Hungarian shaman Joska Soos

of the Hungarian shaman Joska Soos

One of the things Hungarian shaman Joska Soos taught me was to sing with guttural sounds. That was the way he was always singing, all day long. It was the way he was taught by his shaman teacher in Hungary. He said words are not necessary. One starts with focusing on what one wants to manifest. Then one begins with uttering sighs. The just let sounds come through. The sounds have to come from deep within, from the chest, or the abdomen, or from deep within one's being. After a little while, the sounds will develop into a mantra like form (no words), or into a melody. One does not think about it, or judge how one is doing. Just let it come and let it develop. It is easy and natural. It might take a little while to get it down, because we all have grown up with music structures and well defined ways of speaking, that we have forgotten the natural expression of basic sounds that expresses the inner qualities of our being. The mantra or melody that develops by this method is the remedy that will solve the problem one had focused on. It is healing by sound.

Singing with these guttural sounds can be used for other purposes, one of them is to resonate and experience other states of being. The Oreade music company in The Netherland has published a CD with two recordings of Joska Soos' guttural singing. It is now also available on Youtube.
